Every Monday I will be posting a new miracle that God has done in my family. God does so many incredible things for me I would like to post these to encourage others. Remember, God is no respector of persons- what he does for me, He can do for you!
I have already written about my desire to adopt. However, I didn't tell you that I had less than $200 in my savings account and no prosepects of a pay raise in the near future. Our family operates on a single income (hubby works at a Christian school) and I supplement this income as work becomes available. Typically, a family needs between $10,000 and $20,000 to adopt overseas. We did not have that money.
Now that I have set the stage, here is the miracle: Two days before Christmas (when we didn't have any adoption prospects), an anonymous donor contacted me and said that God told them to give my family $3,000 for our upcoming adoption. I told the contact that our adoption prospects had not worked out. The donor replied by saying that God told them to give us the money anyway, because He had a plan for our adoption! For us, $3,000 is a huge miracle. (6 weeks worth of pay)! God is reminding me that He provides for my every need and will give me everything necessary to walk out the calling He has given me. Praise God!

Down the Winding Road of Adoption
Nearly two years ago, my husband I felt called to look into adoption. My husband was adopted as an infant and has always wanted to give the gift of a family to other children. We began praying for the orphans and giving money to ministries that were actively working with the mother and fatherless children. However, we were not satisfied with our passive involvement so we began to explore our possibilities. Initially, we began foster care training classes. This seemed like the logial option since we didn't have the thousands of dollars required by most agencies to privately adopt. At the conclusion of our training, my younger brother died of cancer. After the painful loss we decided we couldn't bear to part with the foster care children that would be placed in our home so we temporarily gave up the idea of adoption.
One year ago, the Lord put the desire in our hearts once again. We began the process by completing our homestudy and all necessary paperwork. We soon found out that adoption was not for the faint in heart! After deciding that we would adopt from Liberia (yes, we saw the kids on Oprah) we found out that the agency we were working with shut down down due to funds being mishandled. After months of trying to track down our paperwork and personal information, we decided to make a change in our plans. We paid $300 dollars to change our homestudy and began to pursue waiting children in India. We especially felt led to a young 8 year old girl that been abandoned by her parents in an Indian train station. We submitted our paperwork and 3 months later we were told that the orphanage rejected us as suitable parents largely due to my age (28). Needless to say, this was devestating. Aaron and I began to pray and just told the Lord that we would submit to His will, but we decided we would not pursue any other children.
In November, an agency called us and asked us if we would consider taking a 2 year old with medical needs. We felt like this could be a sign from God, so we agreed. Right before Christmas we were told that circumstances had changed and that our little one would not be released to an American family for adoption and would not be released to anyone within the next year. Again, we were devestated.
Two weeks ago, the agency called back and said a miracle had taken place. The little girl we wanted to adopt was released for adoption. Again, we frantically submitted our paperwork just yesterday we were told that the orphanage has selected us to adopt this little one.
I don't know why we have had to walk through all of the disappointments and curves in the adoption road, but I do know that God is good in all things. Just when we submitted to God and said that we could do nothing of ourselves, the Lord arranged for a secular agency to call us about this child. My husband and I know we are called to adopt kids from all walks of life to help train them up in the knowledge and goodness of the Lord. I look forward to sharing more about the kids and the many things God does in our lives throughout the coming days, months, and years. In all things- God is good.
